DunHuang MingSha Mountain


MingSha Mountain is located in DunHuang district, GanSu province. From the geography position, it is located between Badain Jaran Desert and the Taklamakan desert. MingSha, in English means roar of the sand. According to legend, in Han dynasty, a general led his army to western xpedition. However, they were raided by the enemies. When these two armies were fighting, a strong came. At that time, they heard the roar of the sand. Finally all the people were buried in to sand. That is why people called it MingSha Mountain.

MingSha Mountain is 40KM long, 20KM wide. The highest place is 250 meters high. All the mountain is consist of sand. The colour of the sand is full of feature. You can find red, yellow, blue, white and black sand here.

The shape of the back of the mountain like a sharp blade. At the foot of the mountain, there is a river named Crescent River. Near the crescent river, there is an ancient house. People can see the sun set there. Of course, if the feel tired in visiting, you can have a rest in this ancient house. Here we strongly recommend the sweet-sour plum juice. It is really quench and fill your energy at once.


Notice: Remember to hire shoe covers before you enter MingSha Mountain because at day time, the temperature of the sand is really high. In order to avoid you shoes unglued, a shoe covers is really needed indeed. In addition, if you want to go there, please take sunscreen, sunshade and sunglass with you. If you feel tired, you can hire a camel there. They will help you in your journey.
